2017

  • October, SiangYee successfully defended her PhD dissertation work. Congratulations! SiangYee will work as a faculty member at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka. 
  • August, Dr. Xu together with other co-PIs received an equipment grant from DoD to purchase Hysitron PicoIndenters (PI 88 and PI95). 
  • Summer, Mr. Hussian Maanaki worked as a REU student in Dr. Xu’s lab. 
  • March, Dr. Xu was elected to serve as the vice chair of the Nanomaterials Committee at TMS. 
  • January, Manira Akter joined group. 

 

2016

  • November, Zhiguang successfully defended his PhD dissertation work. Congratulations! Zhiguang is now working at Intel.
  • October, Dr. Xu received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Congratulations!
  • Summer, Mr. Tan Phan (a rising junior) from the Division College worked as a REU student in Dr. Xu’s lab. 
  • April, Dr. Xu received the official notice and was promoted to the rank of Full Professor.  Congratulations!

 

2015

  • July, Dr. Xu gave a keynote talk at ICCES’15. 
  • Summer, Mr. Michael Buchbinder (a rising junior) from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art worked as a REU student in Dr. Xu’s lab. 
  • Dr. Xu will be the lead organizer for the 2016 Functional and Structural Nanomaterials Symposium at the TMS annual meeting. 
  • Dr. Xu will serve as a guest editor for one of JOM’s 2016 issue sponsored by the Nanomaterials committee of TMS.

 

2014

  • November, Youfei successfully defended his PhD dissertation work. Congratulations! Youfei is now working at Hermes-MicroVision. 
  • Dr. Xu will be a co-organizer for the 2015 Functional and Structural Nanomaterials symposium at  the TMS annual meeting.
  • Dr. Xu will serve as a guest editor for one of JOM’s 2015 issue sponsored by the Nanomaterials committee of TMS.

 

2013

2011

  • The collaborative project with Dr. Li at Vanderbilt University leads to a publication in Nature Nanotechnology, the top journal in the field!  Thanks for the good work/contribution done by group members: Xiaoxia Wu and Youfei Jiang,  the postdoc: Dr. Timothy Gutu, and the colleague: Dr. Haitao Zhang.  NSF news release.
  • Dr. Xu will be a co-organizer for the 2012 Functional and Structural Nanomaterials symposium at TMS annual conference.
  • Dr. Xu was invited to serve on the Editorial Board of ISRN Materials Science.

 

2010

  • October, Dr. Xu gave an invited talk at MS&T 2010.
  • April, Dr. Xu was promoted to Associate Professor with permanent tenure.

  • August, Youfei Jiang joined the Xu group as a Ph.D. student.
  • Summer, Colleen Bosak worked in Dr. Xu’s lab as a NSF-funded REU student.

 

2008

  • November, Dr. Xu together with Dr. Li from Vanderbilt University received a grant from Lockheed Martin Corporation.
  • August, Zhe Guan joined the Xu group as a Ph.D. student.
  • August, Dr. Xu together with other four co-PIs received a NSF MRI grant on purchasing a high resolution Transmission Electron Microscope and related sample preparation tools.
  • June, Dr. Xu together with Dr. Li from Vanderbilt University received a NSF grant.
  • May, Syed successfully defended his dissertation work. Congratulations! Syed is now working at Intel, Inc. (Group picture taken in May 2008).
  • May, Dr. Xu received a supplementary grant from the American Chemical Society (ACS) to host a summer research fellow.
