URAP Opportunity
Funded by the United States Army Research Laboratory – Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP), research opportunity for one undergraduate student is available at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) in summer 2018. The student will participate in a project, using electron microscopy-based methods to study mechanical properties of one-dimensional nanostructures. The objectives of this project are to (1) expose the participant to the process of conducting research in a diverse research group, and (2) increase his or her awareness of education/career opportunities in the science and engineering fields.
Duration
- June 11, 2018 to August 3, 2018 (300 hours in total)
Stipend
- $4,500 in total
Qualification
To be qualified for the URAP program, the applicants
- Must be junior or senior undergraduate students in science and engineering majors;
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.2 (unweighted) with completion of courses related to materials science and engineering.
How to Apply
- Interested students MUST apply at the AROP website. (http://www.cvent.com/events/2018-undergraduate-research-apprenticeship-program-urap-/event-summary-efa00dc406b0454b908d11443a42ef70.aspx)
- The application deadline is February 28, 2018.
- The code is B556. The school is “University of North Carolina, Charlotte”. The project title is “Electron Microscopy-based in situ Characterization of Boron-based One-Dimensional Nanostructures”.
- All applicants must submit a short curriculum vitae, an official transcript, and a letter of recommendation. Applicants are also required to provide a Statement of Purpose (max. 2 pages in length), describing their research interests, any relevant research/academic/work experience, career goals, academic preparation, and others.
