It was good to have some students and alums over food and games as the fall semester came to a close. On the games front, we learned a bit about wombats, gambled with a middle schooler, and Matt Calvin remained undefeated in Kill Dr. Lucky (the family board game of cold blooded murder) 19.5th anniversary edition.
It was good to be back to in-person conferences this September for UMERC/METS/OREC out in Portland. There were a lot of great presentations and it was nice to hear all of the exciting research updates. In particular, it was great to catch up with my former student Casey and hear about all the exciting things he’s doing at NREL.

It was good to have some students and alums over for food and games at the end of the summer and catch up before the semester started. Unfortunately, I think everyone was again having too much fun and forgot to capture any pictures. As is tradition, there were a good number of games of Pairs before we shifted to more treacherous games. Alliances were made. Betrayals occurred. I had my perfect scheme thwarted by a 6th grader. Good times.
It was another strong showing from Appstates Team Sunergy as they took 2nd place in the American Solar Challenge.

I’m glad that we were able to take care of some material testing to help them certify their roll cage design.

The middle of May brought the end of the Spring 22 semester, and with it graduation. Alex, Mallory, and Matt all graduated with their undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
The weekend before graduation, I was happy to be able to host several of the graduates and alums at the house for food and games. Like most good gatherings, I was too busy to capture many pictures…but here is the aftermath of several high stakes rounds of Pairs and Skulls.
