Minimum Requirements::
Minimum of Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
Description of Work:
Position reports to the Dean of Engineering and Technology and is responsible for providing instruction for engineering courses.
General duties include: This faculty position will play an enthusiastic role in ongoing, collegial conversations about ideas, goals, pedagogical methods, and authentic assessment, within a collaborative teaching and learning environment. Faculty are expected to develop and communicate to students clear course objectives and goals; plan and develop an instructional program that helps students assimilate specific course content and skills; regularly monitor and evaluate students’ progress, providing them with resources and feedback on their performance; structure and manage an environment conducive to learning; model for students responsibility to self and others; follow the School’s philosophy, policies, and procedures; serve as academic advisor to a small group of students (beginning in the second year of employment); serve as a Mini-Term sponsor; attend departmental, faculty, and staff meetings; serve on departmental, faculty, and school-based standing committees; participate in professional development and personal intellectual growth activities. Participate in one or more of the following activities: provide information, service, and expertise to other schools and organizations; assist students on special projects, independent and individual study, and seminar-based studies; participate in the Admissions Process by recruiting, selecting, and advising prospective students; participate in the NCSSM alumni activities; provide assistance for school-sponsored programs and extra-curricular activities. Opportunities for leadership within the department may be available.
Specific Duties: Specific duties include teaching Fundamentals of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Research Experience in Engineering.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience as an engineering instructor, engineering teaching assistant, and/or engineering industry experience is desired. Experience teaching engineering in a high school setting is preferred.
Other requirements include: preparation for teaching an ethnically diverse student population as demonstrated by training and experience; experience in use of educational technology; commitment to curriculum design and willingness to participate in residential school programs including social, recreational, and advisory responsibilities at times other than usual school hours.
