ETGR 3272: Applied Numerical Methods

Required Text: Numerical Methods for Engineers, 4th Edition by Chapra & Canale (Mc Graw-Hill)
Course Description: Numerical methods for the solution of engineering problems on the digital computer. Emphasis on applications to civil and mechanical engineering technology, using both commercial and student written programs.
Homework: Homework will consist of the reading assignments and homework. I will collect selected homework problems from the assigned set for grading. Please fold homework in half and label the outside with your name and the problem numbers. Be sure to underline your answers. Homework will be collected on Mondays.
Exams: Exams will be based on material covered in class and homework problems. NO make-up exams will be given WITHOUT approval before the missed exam.
Grading: Quizzes 5%
Homework & projects 15%
Exams 55%
Final Exam 25%
Final Exam: Friday, Dec 14, 12-3pm
Attendance: Class performance is strongly related to class attendance. In this sense attendance is factored into your grade. I strongly recommend regular attendance.
Website: A website has been created for this class where you can get additional information throughout the semester. I plan to post a class list, homework assignments, announcements, etc.
Academic Integrity: All UNCC students have the responsibility to be familiar with and to observe the requirements of The UNCC Code of Academic Integrity (see Catalog, pages 24-25). This code forbids cheating, fabrication or falsification of information, multiple submissions of academic material, and complicity in academic dishonesty. Students who violate the code can be punished to the extent of being permanently expelled from UNCC and having this fact recorded on their official transcript.
