CAOS is a way to use computers and other cutting-edge technologies for better surgical planning, decision and real-time evaluation during orthopaedic surgery.
For example, using real-time motion capture and navigation software, surgeons have performed image-guided orthopaedic surgery. This technology has been used in total joint arthroplasty and spine surgery to achieve better alignment of the implant, avoid vital organs during surgery, real-time evaluation of range of motion etc.
CAOS also allows minimum invasive surgery which allows the minimum cut of the skin, muscle and other soft tissues during surgery.
