Brief Biography

Dr. Roger Tipton is a Research Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science department at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he merges extensive industry experience with academic expertise in teaching and research. He also serves as a Materials Research Fellow with Newell Brands. With a multifaceted background spanning from the shop floor to the boardroom and now the science lab, Dr. Tipton is a leading authority in composite, polymer, and sustainable materials.

His academic journey is significantly complemented by an entrepreneurial spirit, having founded several successful companies. These ventures underscore his innovative thinking and problem-solving skills, effectively bridging the gap between academia and industry by applying research to real-world challenges. Additionally, Dr. Tipton actively explores investment opportunities in emerging technologies and sustainable initiatives, leveraging his astute business acumen to identify and support promising ventures that align with his vision for advancing materials science.

Dr. Tipton holds a Bachelor’s in Materials Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University, a Master’s in Materials Science, and a PhD in Chemical, Biological & Materials Engineering, both from the University of South Florida.
