Shahed Khan Mohammed

Assistant Professor, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Biomechanical Imaging and Computation Lab Director

Dr. Shahed Khan Mohammed earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of British Columbia, where he was co-advised by Dr. Tim Salcudean and Dr. Piotr Kozlowski. His doctoral research focused on magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) reconstruction and acquisition, leveraging model-based optimization to improve speed and accuracy.

Following his Ph.D., Dr. Mohammed joined the Hariri Laboratory at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital as a research fellow under Dr. Lida Hariri. There, he advanced the clinical translation of microscale elastography for the early detection of pulmonary fibrosis. He also served as a research and development consultant for Sonic Incytes, a liver ultrasound elastography company that achieved FDA approval.

Dr. Mohammed’s research interests lie in developing multiscale, multiparametric elastography integrated with multimodal imaging, and expanding elastography to new clinical applications. He is particularly interested in creating biomechanics-informed digital twins for health management, accelerating tissue biomechanics simulations with AI, and advancing biological motion estimation using medical imaging.
