Research interests
Dr. Chen’s group is interested in structural materials that can sustain load under extreme environments, such as radiation, and high temperature. The research includes advanced manufacturing and the fundamental relationship between materials structure and property across multiple length scales: from the atomic scale to the macroscopic scale. These materials are generally for energy applications.
- Structural characterization of novel materials
- Advanced nanoindentation for strength, creep, and fatigue properties
- Radiation tolerance of structural materials for advanced nuclear energy
- Small-scale mechanical behavior
- In situ and ex-situ electron microscopy
- Additive manufacturing of metals, ceramics, and composites
- Materials Removal Mechanisms during Precision Machining
