Andrew Simms joined the Power Delivery Innovation Research Group in September 2019. He began his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at UNC Charlotte in the fall of 2015 and graduated in the spring of 2019. He began his master’s degree in the fall of 2018 by entering the early entry program at UNC Charlotte.
Andrew interned during the summers of 2018 and 2019 at SENSUS. He worked as a hardware reliability test intern on electric meters. This consisted of running high humidity, high temperature, and high voltage tests to observe the reliability of the hardware components in the electric meters. From August 2018 to May 2019 Andrew was part of the Duke Meter Placement senior design team. He worked with other team members to devise and evaluate meter placement schemes on Duke Energy distribution networks.
Research Interests:
- Integration of Renewable Energy Sources (Specifically Wind Energy)
- Meter Placement Strategies for IVVC and Self-Healing Application on Distribution/Transmission Networks
