Our research interest is focused on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developing multifunctional drug delivery systems to treat various diseases including osteoarthritis, osteomyelitis and breast cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Engineering of innovative orthopedic fixation devices using mechanically compatible bioactive ceramic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Improving the performance of artificial joints and load bearing implants through surface modifications and coating with bioactive ceramic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cryopreservation of mesenchymal stem cells in porous resorbable scaffolds to provide an unlimited supply of biological bone grafts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The work includes studies of the correlation among structure-processing and material properties, cell-material interactions, drug release kinetics, surface characterization, mechanical behavior, dissolution kinetics, molecular biology assays and animal surgeries, histopathology and radiography.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. El-Ghannam&#8217;s laboratory is dedicated to the design of novel bioactive nano-composites for applications in orthopedic and maxillofacial surgeries, tissue engineering and targeted drug delivery in soft and hard tissues.
